24 More: Season of Light

IMG_5159The Advent Calendar is up and I started thinking about doing some posts like I did three years ago in the run-up to Christmas.  No promises that I’ll be able to post every day because at some point in the last year my life became way too complicated for predictability.

It struck me as funny that I take down a sun sculpture in order to hang up the advent calendar.  Something in my subconscious must be mingling traditions. 😉

Thanksgiving Puzzle Fun

I’ve come up with another word search puzzle for you. This one, of course, is Thanksgiving-themed.  If you’re waiting around for the pies to bake or the turkey to roast, this might be just the ticket. Not too taxing but relaxing. Enjoy (answers up after I’ve recovered from the feast…later this weekend) and Happy Thanksgiving!

52 Boosts

Inspired by this 29 Ways to Stay Creative video (and certainly lacking creativity lately), I compiled a list of creativity boosters. Many of these are taken verbatim from the above-mentioned video. Others I found online. The remainder have worked for me in the past. To inject an element of whimsy, I printed out one idea each on business cards and made myself a 52-card deck. I’ll choose one each day or each week–whatever I’m in the mood for–and work on that idea. Couldn’t hurt. Do you have suggestions to add to the list?

Autumn Evenings

One good thing about Autumn, beyond the delightful fact that there are no more 100+ degree days, is the frequency of clouds and the chance to see awesome sunsets. Today was the first day I turned on the heater in the house and tomorrow a storm comes in. Today it is calm. Today was a day for a long walk. Look up.

67P

I was so excited by the Philae probe’s landing on Comet 67P. And so disappointed that it’s been unable to recharge its batteries. I hope it’ll be possible to revive the probe in future. How cool that, after a 10+ year mission, it did successfully land on a hunk of space ice. I also love that the probe was named after the Philae obelisk while its carrying satellite was named after the Rosetta Stone. Both were essential to the understanding and translation of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics.
